We were wandering the streets in the Grunzing area in search of a heuriger to taste some local wine and food but without the trappings of a tourist focused heuriger. This one is some 750 meters from the #38 tram stop.The entrance is non-descript with the signature pine boughs of a heuriger hanging outside what looked like a residential door. The space opened to a large gravel yard with trees and vines all around and a 200 year old chestnut tree. Nikolaus our host greeted us and we sat ourselves at one of the many picnic style tables. He explained the routine to us. For our starters we went inside to pick amongst an assortment of Austrian cheeses, cured meats, salads, and spreads. As you picked from the deli he sliced and placed the choices on plates which we chose to share between each other back at the table. These were excellent and included a fresh cucumber salad, sauerkraut, lentil salad, blood sausage, and a cured smoke ham similar to speckl.For our mains we were invited by Nikolaus to a chalkboard to choose from a list of available entrées for the day. He translated for us and there were about 10 dishes. We chose a lamb ragout with polenta and a simple country stew with vegetables and ham. This is where the dinner broke into best meal category! We love country cooking based on fresh flavour a and quality ingredients - these dishes made the mark. Nikolaus' wife is the cook and this is really a meal made by someone who understands food!The wines were local and amazingly good. We tried both a white and a red on his recommendation and they both were eye opening.The atmosphere was great and it was truly an evening in a backyard in the country! Highly recommend this place if you want to eat with the locals (there were lots of regulars there!)

Nice Heuriger type place with decent wine. They have deli/buffet style food available. You order and pay at the counter. There are many hot and cold meats available, a salad selection and other hot dishes that you order and are brought to the table (eg pasta, savoury strudel). Lovely mini pastries and cakes available for dessert, you can pick and mix as few or as many as you want. Friendly and helpful service.

Seit einiger Zeit gibt es jetzt in Hagenbrunn die „Konditorei – Cafe – Eissalon Henriette“ in der Salzstraße, sehr zentral gelegen direkt bei Gemeindeamt und Raika. Vor dem Cafe gibt es eine sehr große Anzahl an Parkplätzen. Das Cafe ist eine Filiale der Konditorei Henriette aus Grossrußbach und wurde in einen Neubau konzipiert. Vor dem Lokal befindet sich ein Außenbereich mit einigen Tischen und Sitzgelegenheit, sehr schön angelegt. Das Innenlokal ist sehr modern gestaltet, helle Möbel, sehr modern in weiss und grau gehalten, sehr angenehmes Ambiente und nette Accessoires, es dürften so an die 50 Sitzplätze vorhanden sein, alles Nichtraucher. Ein umfangreiches Angebot an Mehlspeisen (ca. 20 verschiedene Torten und Mehlspeisen), abwechslungsreiche Imbisse, zahlreiche Frühstücksangebote sowie eine eigene Eiskarte mit vielen verschiedenen Eiscoupes (ca. 12 verschiedene Sorten) und ein sehr gutes Angebot an verschiedenen Cafes. Wir wählten Mohntorte und Topfentorte, auf sehr schönen modernen Tellern serviert, die Portionsgröße Ok, geschmacklich sehr gut, dazu Wiener Eiskaffee und Cafe Latte mit Zimtgeschmack, ebenfalls sehr schön zubereitet serviert. Lt. eigenen Angaben stammen alle Mehlspeisen aus eigener Erzeugung. Das Service ist sehr freundlich und höflich. Leider war das Essen durchwegs weit unter den Erwartungen. Der Burger kostet knapp €14 und schmeckt mittelmäßig. Beilage sind Chips, vermutlich aus einem Sackerl?! Da bekommt man ja sogar bei McDonalds bessere Burger und die Kosten nur die Hälfte mit gescheiter Beilage. Der Salat war aus dem Sackerl und lieblos angerichtet. Der Semmelknödel im Gulasch war zerkocht und nicht gesalzen, einfach grauslich.Die Hoibe Bier kostet auch schon €4,50 aufwärts(!). Das Wirtshaus befindet sich im 22. Bezirk, hat aber Preise wie im ersten Bezirk, wobei das Essen echt enttäuschend ist. Mich werdets dort nimmer sehen.
